Good Cause:

The California Department of Social Services supports programs that serve more than eight million people across California. This work, accomplished everyday, provides stability, opportunity and promotes wellness in communities throughout the state.

Great Results:

We have worked with our partners at CDSS on several projects. In 2022, we helped them create a conceptual framework for Child and Family Teams (CFTs). An increasing body of evidence shows that services for children and families are most effective when delivered in the context of a single, integrated team that includes the child or youth, their family, natural and community supports, and professionals. In California, the CFT process is central to the success of the Continuum of Care Reform efforts and the well-being of children, youth, and families served by public agencies and their partners. It is based on the belief that children, youth, and families can resolve their problems if given sufficient support and resources to help them do so.

We are working with CDSS to develop a comprehensive Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) Plan for CFTs and the Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths (CANS) tool being used statewide in California. The plan will provide a framework for ongoing assessment, improvement, and accountability, ensuring the effectiveness of services provided and improving outcomes for children, youth, and families involved with the System of Care.

We are also evaluating a pilot project to test the use of a new Universal Release of Information (ROI) form, intended to support a coordinated approach to sharing information necessary to inform treatment planning and care coordination for children and youth in foster care. Evaluation findings will provide valuable feedback to support the implementation of this ROI and ensure its effectiveness across systems.
